Chris Mason Johnson began his career as a dancer in ballet and modern companies throughout the U.S. and Europe, including the Frankfurt Ballet and Mikhail Baryshnikov’s White Oak Dance Project. Since his transition to film he’s worked as Head of Development at Open City Films in New York; as Script Editor and Analyst for Miramax, Dimension, Disney, ABC Family and Fine Line; and has taught screenwriting and film production at Rutgers University, Amherst College and California College of the Arts.
After making several short films that played at festivals nationwide, Chris co-wrote, directed and produced his first feature film, THE NEW TWENTY (2009), which won multiple festival awards and had a limited theatrical release to strong reviews. Chris wrote, directed, produced and co-edited his second feature film, TEST (2013), which is set in the San Francisco modern dance world of 1985. TEST won two Grand Jury Awards at Outfest 2013 — Outstanding Screenwriting and Outstanding U.S. Dramatic Feature — and received widespread critical acclaim.
