Sir Ian McKellen is a internationally renowned actor, famous for his work on both stage and screen. With a career that stretches back to the late 1950s, McKellen has been the recipient of six Laurence Olivier Awards, a Tony Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a BIF Award, two Saturn Awards, four Drama Desk Awards, and two Critics’ Choice Awards. He has also received two Oscar nominations, four BAFTA nominations and five Emmy Award nominations.
His work in both Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings Saga and Fox’s X-men launched him to worldwide fame whilst at home he continued to maintain an active role in British Theatre. In 2018 he is set to play King Lear at the Duke of York theatre in London and have a starring role in Simon Napier-Bell’s 50 Years Legal.
Openly gay since 1988, Sir Ian has been a champion of LGBT+ movements worldwide and continues to have an active role in the community.
