One of the leading sex symbols of the 1950s and 1960s, film actress Jayne Mansfield was born on April 19, 1933 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, in the United States . A talented and intelligent actress, Jayne moved to Hollywood in the 1950s and began to star in a number of roles – often playing characters that showcased her body – and became known as the poor man’s Marilyn Monroe. Despite never receiving a break-out performance, she remained prominent throughout the 1950s.
By the turn of the century her career options became more limited; she was dropped from 20th Century Fox and began to star in more B and low-budget movies.
In the early hours of June 29, 1967, Mansfield, her partner and her driver were killed in a car accident outside of New Orleans, her children in the back-seat survived.
